Dell Inspiron n5010 processor upgrade core i7 640m

I want to upgrade my old dell 15r, it came with a core i3 380m, i want to change it to a core i7 640m or if it not possible to a core i5 580m. My chipset is an intel ibex peak-m hm57, intel ironlake-m.

I want to know if my bios may be a problem or can i swap the processor and will work. They are all pga988a, tdp 35w.

These shipped with 620m CPUs -- those will definitely work.  The 640m should work but there are no guarantees since the system never shipped with those.

It was shipped with that model, so it will work.

That said, if you leave everything else the same, it may not boost things as much as you'd think -- if the system still has a conventional hard drive in it, you'll get a much bigger bang for your buck out of replacing that with a solid state drive than you will upgrading the CPU.
