Hi, I lost the original power cord that came with my Dell Vostro laptop. I've been using an old HP power cord to power on my Vostro which will stay on as long as the HP power cord is connected. But for some reason my battery will no longer charge/hold a charge and my laptop shuts off as soon as I disconnected the HP power cord. Do I need to buy a new Dell Vostro power cord? Or can the problem be something else? PLEASE HELP! Thanks!!!
The battery in your 'Dell Vostro notebook' is likely to work best with a 'Dell AC Adapter'. You may want to try using a good-known 'Dell Adapter cable' designed for your laptop (if available). There is a possibility that the battery is not good enough and may need replacement.
You may also check 'system BIOS' to verify the 'AC Adapter Status'; may give us an indication about how well the adapter is being recognized by the system. To enter BIOS, power off the notebook > power it back on > At 'Dell splash screen, repeatedly tap 'F2 key'. This will take you to the 'BIOS environment'. Please check the status of 'AC Adapter Type' and share results. (Mouse would not work in this environment; please navigate using the arrow keys on the keyboard). If you face difficulty finding the correct options, you may respond with the exact 'model number' of your 'Dell Vostro' notebook; and I will give you detailed steps.
Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions; would be glad to assist.
