Dell XPS 17 L701X cooling fan

Hi,

I have a Dell XPS 17 L701X. Bought august 2012.
Only modification is an SSD. Problem didn't start after the installation of it.

Problem:
Fan speed is most of the times at max speed. Fan even spins when system is idle after start up.
Even when just browsing with a few tabs open the fan is at max speed.
On battery power, with net power (with and without battery) gives the same result.

Already done:
-Cleaned out the insides
-Changed thermal paste
-Complete system reinstall
-Shut of background programs

What else is possible to do? The noise is irritating. The temperature of the CPU is still +75°C according to Speccy.

Thank you,

Axel

Hi Axel,

Does the system overheat? Are there any bluescreens / system crashes?

You have tried most required steps to resolve the issue.

Ensure you backup all data on the system.

Try flashing the BIOS - http://dell.to/2gPpgpW- force the flash if required - http://dell.to/2hnhjs4

If this does not resolve the issue, then replace the fan.

You could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

You could also order the parts here - http://bit.ly/2gB12Sy

Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your Name for case records.

Let us know if you have any other queries.

No overheating. No bluescreens of death.

I'll try the flashing.

Thanks for the links to the parts. Hope the fan itselve will be available later on because now it is out of stock.

I'll send you the information you need in PM.

Axel

Tried the flashing. Unfortunatly it didn't work out.

Time to get inside the laptop.

Sorry was a bit too quick.

Now after a day, so also an extra restart, I can hear the clear modulation of the fan.

Now it is as it should be.

So DELL-Rishi provided me with the answer.

Flashing the BIOS worked out.
