Inspiron 7000 (7537) issues after Windows 8.1 update

I got my laptop updated to 8.1 and i found 2 issues so far:

1- my monitor tuns off after 30 minutes when plugged in, but doesn't turn back on. Happened twice and had to force shut down. (laptop wasn't on sleep)

2- keyboard and touchpad "Failed to start" after windows startup, so i entered the password using on-screen keyboard and restarted windows.

UPDATE!!     24-11-2013

seems that Intel finally solved the issue, released driver 3345.

go to Intel's system detect site and make it detect your system for updates: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect

this update has numerous fixes and the most important is: Resolved black screen occurring when resuming from an automatic monitor off scenario.

Hi wass_y,

http://dell.to/17DO2xl Chipset driver

http://dell.to/17bdb8a Intel driver

http://dell.to/19W76qn Nvidia driver

Please update the driver in the exact same order and check if the issue persists.

Hi All,

After the update to windows 8.1 I experienced several issues related to the video

1  - I cannot change the video brightness (even if I can change the indicator useing the Fn + F4 or F5 the brightness of the videe doesn't change at all: it is always at maximum); this is a big issue when in the light in the room is low

2 - The screen resolution is terrible for certain applications (i.e. Skype, internet explorer).

I tried to update the driver of the video matherboard to the last version with no results unfortunately.

Can someone help me? thanks a lot!!

Diego

UPDATE:It's not only the display thats not turning back on but the laptop stops responding. the only thing that indicates that its on is the backlit keyboard.

the thing is, when the display turns off, if i moved the mouse immediately it will turn on again, but if i left it off for some time the laptop stops responding.

it's not an update issue since i did all my updates through dell website, and though windows update.

any suggestions?!

Hi wass_y and miglioranzid,

Try running the hardware diagnostics to check if the hardware is working as designed; please refer to the link below.

http://dell.to/162eS7m

You can also run the hardware diagnostics by pressing the Fn + power.Let us know if there is any error code listed.

Also send me the system service tag or express service code through a private chat, I will see what best can be done.

Click on my username select start a private conversation and send me the details.

Please refer to the link below where to locate the service tag or express service code.

I have the same problem (7537), the display turns off (no sleep), but doesn't turn on again and I need to force shutdown. I ran the hardware diagnostics and all tests passed.
The other problem, the text which is blurry in some programs, is a microsoft problem and the current workaround is to go to the properties of the program, then the compatibility tab and select "disable display scaling on high dpi settings", side effect is that the text becomes smaller too.

I hope dell can provide a solution for the display turning off and not back on.

My service tag is Service tag removed as per privacy policy>

I'm having the same problem with my 7537. When it's left idle, the display will turn off and the laptop becomes non-responsive, until I force shutdown and restart. Not sure if its a problem with the hardware, or with Windows 8.1, but really need a fix for this soon.

well guys let's just turn switch the "turn off display" option to Never and hope Dell will figure something out :emotion-1:

I'm having the same exact issue.  I've reformatted my new 7537 (3) times now and have uninstalled/reinstalled all display drivers.  Every time the computer goes to sleep, I have to hard restart using the power off button.

I'm on the verge of returning this thing.

Hi,

Our engineering team is already looking at this issue and I noticed our support page is not updated with 8.1 drivers yet (Work is in progress). Meanwhile try the link below that has drivers for Win 8.1 (Search for supported OS - WB64A) and update the Chipset and Video drivers. Please write back with your findings that will be helpful for further investigation.

Hi,

I have a 7537 and I was having the same issue as the people above. I updated my drivers from the site you provided (BIOS, Quickset & Intel Management Engine) and now I am having a new issue. When I close the lid the system turns off immediately. I have all the power settings set so that the system should do nothing when its plugged into power. Any suggestions or information that you would need?

Thanks,

Hi

Same issue as all others here. I updated all drivers one by one. Restart machine and just leave it running at the login screen. Screen blanks and then wont wake. Hard reset is all that sorts it

Come on Dell - these are just off the production line. Please help resolve. Are these hardware issues?
