Latitude CPx J650G Won't Boot

I recently bought this laptop at a yard sale. Apparently it was previously hooked to a docking system and the primary hard drive was in a main frame.

I bought a 40gb hard drive and installed in the left side slot, but it will not boot up, keeps saying that there is no bootable source available. And in the BIOs it shows no primary hard drive, as it is still looking for the main frame one. I am assumming this is true.

I there anyway to get around this, or should I throw it in the garbage can. What windows will this run, if I do get it to boot. I have been trying to get it to boot from Windows XP Pro. but it will do nothing. Please help.

Are you certain you used an EIDE drive, and installed the connector on the back of it that you'll need to attach it to your system?

The connector is the part on the back of the caddy in this photo

Yes, that is the part that I used, and then plugged it into the left side slot on the laptop, but it is not reading it at all.
