Loud clicking after i press the power button

Tried to boot up my inspiron, and all I got was a black screen, and a  loud clicking sound. I have win 8 installed.

If the system has a hard drive, it's a bad sign -- what model system?  Does the clicking cease if you disconnect the hard drive?

If the system is under warranty, call Dell -- it's likely the hard drive is the cause of the noise and it'll need to be replaced.

If the noises stop when you disconnect the drive, you've found the bad part.

Agreed, sounds like a bad hard drive. Like everyone else said, try removing it and see if the noise stops. If your laptop is not under warranty go to newegg.com or amazon.com and you can order a new laptop hard drive from there.

Got that sorted out with Dell engineer who came and fitted a new motherboard. Everything is up and running.
