YIKES my 700m dies when you unplug the AC Power

Even though my battery is charged, when I pull out the AC cord,  my computer totally dies.  Battery is not shown in the bottom tray and of course my warranty expired 20 days ago.  I tried to search the postings about flashing the BIOS (tried it) and something about the battery connectors.  Any definitive answer on what is going on here?
