inspiron 1150 problem

my laptop froze on me so i just turned it off by pressing the power button. i went to go turn it back on and it showed that the power was on but the screen remained completely black. i could hear the system running ,but then it got silent, although the green light still showed that the power was on. It then turn off on its own. It still won't turn on and remains completely black. my adapter is fine. any ideas to help?
