7370 adjusting brightness on light backgrounds

Hi all,

I have a 7370 and the auto brightness is doing my head in. I know I solved this before but its since had a new mobo and a reinstall.

The problem is when switching between light and dark things on the screen the brightness adjusts, its NOT a case that it adjusts based on ambient light

I've been through everything on this thread which seems to be quite comprehensive!

https://superuser.com/questions/994443/brightness-changes-while-adaptive-brightness-is-disabled-in-windows-8-1-10

I've been through everything in advanced power settings, intel settings as well as the registry hacks.

Sounds like this could be Content Adaptive Brightness Control, which is separate from the more typically discussed adaptive brightness (which varies based on ambient light) and Intel Display Power Saving Technology (which washes out colors to preserve battery life).

Thank you, doesn't look like there is a patch for this unfortunately :(

It is definitely Content Adaptive Brightness Control, and so far, I've not found a solution.

This is a feature called "CABC". Dell does not advertise this feature anywhere but you get to find out about it after buying the laptop after which you have no recourse except to hope that dell releases a fix for it. This same feature exists in the XPS line for which they have released a fix. They haven't yet for this laptop, nor there is any communication that they plan to. When I contacted dell I was told that it's working "as designed" and basically to deal with it. I own the 7373 and facing the same issue.

Dell has finally acknowledged the issue exists, please send in system info as per this post by one of the dell employees

The 7373 had a bios update about 3 weeks back, that has a option to disable this, Check the latest bios update.

I used to have this laptop and sold it as a result of the automatic backlight driving me mad. Since the last post, I have looked on dell's site and there are still BIOS updates being made for this laptop.

https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=n9cvy&oscode=wt64a&productcode=latitude-13-7370-laptop

This update from June 3rd of 2019 mentions this: "Fixed the issue where the system does not support the DynBacklightctrl option in Dell Command | Configure."

I'm wondering if that will solve the issue. I do not currently own a 7370 but I might consider buying one again if this fix actually works. So, I hope someone will read this, try it out, and then post their results.
