Blue screen error (bhtpcrdr.sys failed) when trying to install Win10 on a Latitude E7250

I cleared the C drive and wanted to do a clean installation of Windows 10 Pro on a Latitude E7250. The installer USB was created by using DELL OS Recovery Tool. However, everytime when I pressed F12 and selected to boot from USB, sooner or later around the appearance of the language selection screen, suddenly a blue screen appeared, showing a message that "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart". Stop code: system thread exception not handled; What failed: bhtpcrdr.sys.

I have managed to upgrade the bios to the newest version (=A21). SInce no OS installed, I could not install any driver. It seems that the error might be caused by a USB driver issue, and clearly the win10 installer generated by the DELL OS Recovery Tool has a big problem. Anyone can give me a hand on how to solve this issue? Thanks.

Instead of installing drivers you should download the one ring to rule them all CAB file and do all the drivers at once.  bhtpcrdr.sys is the O2 Micro SD card reader driver.  You cannot use this to install windows.

The other issue is that the installer is not 16 or 32 gig max and its not USB2.0

You can buy a USB2 optical Drive and an OEM System Builder DVD

to reinstall F12 booting from that.

You install windows 10 clean.

Then download the CAB file.

Move the Cab file into the My Documents Folder.

Download 7zip and install.

https://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Right Click on the Cab File in the My Documents Folder for the user and with 7zip say Extract here.

Then go into device manager and Right click on any yellow !  and say INSTALL Drivers from MY PC instead of the internet.

Everything will be recognized and installed with no drivers needed and without needing to be online.

Yes,

Used the DELL OS Recovery Tool to create the 'Installer' on my 16GB USB2.0 Stick.

Thank you, speedstep.

The key issue here is, I don't have a chance to complete the win10 installation. Before it could start, the blue screen came and the system restart, deadlock cycles again and again.

Will have a try.

It seems that I can go ahead for win7 installation using the usb, no blue screen for that, but I don't have the driver disk.

For the win10 installation/recovery, how can I find my license key? original label under the laptop bottom is damaged.

i have the same problem on Dell LATITUDE E7250, installing Windows 10 downloaded to SD card, then to USB key but always the same problem:

error: system thread exception not handled

bhtpcrdr.sys failed

but only MediaCreationTool from Microsoft helped, to create working bootable USB, this DELL creation too is completely useless in my case.

Dear all,

I found a solution on my side.

I used it with my Latitude E5450, but should be ok for other laptops, too.

In BIOS Setup i (temporarily) disabled the card-reader

( Settings - System-Configuration - Miscellaneous Devices --> Disable Media Card )

Now the Dell Recovery Win 10 64-Bit worked like a charm.

later you can re-enable the Media Card again

Hope it helps someone.

Best

Michael

I mean, when you did the re-installation, where did you put the win10 installer software to start? Didn't you use a USB drive? Thanks.

Thank you for making this thread.  I had the same problem. I found disabling the driver worked fine, I did not have to "uninstall" it.

I also had this problem

Swapped RAM, Reseated Ram, Diagnostics, the works - no difference.

I had to go back to an OLD USB that was shipped from Dell 2yrs ago with Windows 10 on it.

The latest USB from Dell wouldnt read.. would start the install process, get to select country - then BSOD.

Old USB worked first time.
