DCU version 4.1.0 unable to retrieve system inventory information on Latitude E6230
I'm running Win 10 Pro, 64-bit OS on my Latitude E6230 and lately the Dell Command Update will not complete and displays: "unable to retrieve system inventory information." I've uninstalled & re-installed both Dell-Command-Update-Application-for-Windows-10_DF2DT_WIN_4.1.0_A00 and Dell-Command-Update-Application_P5R35_WIN_4.1.0_A00 execution files with no luck. Any suggestions please?

Can you share your Dell Model Number? Is it failing in Latitude E6230 or are you trying in a different Dell system?

Have you tried this patch?
Dell Update Recovery Utility, Version 1.0.0 A01, 4/23/21
If not, suggest you try and see if it solves the issue.

@IamGK tried the patch w/ DCU 4.2 and same thing, different day. Said it once, and I'll say it again....WHAT A JOKE. They've done something, and don't know how to fix it or don't care enough to.

I have some insights on the issue and maybe I can help you if you can share with me the BIOS version of your machine,
to get the BIOS version, Run this command in PowerShell: gwmi win32_bios | select smbiosbiosversion

That is really unfortunate, which platform is it again, I know this is an issue with Optiplex 7050. Are you on the same platform? On my Lati i don't see any issue + I understand that the issue was with invcolPC.exe, which got fixed in the latest version.
If you can let me know the platform Name and BIOS version, maybe I can help you. To get the BIOS version run the below command in PowerShell

The strangest thing happened on 29 May around 1:45pm. DCU 4.2.0 suddenly started working on my XPS15 9560.
The reason I knew this had happened was a notification appeared telling me I had some Dell updates to install.
I have no idea why it suddenly started to work. I did not update Windows or update any Dell components or even open DCU. It just suddenly started working.
If I look at the Service.log in C:\ProgramData\Dell\UpdateService\Log I can see hundreds of failed entries and then suddenly things starting to work at 13:45. Since then it has contibued to work.
I realise something must have changed to fix this, but I just don't know what it was, and it definitely wasn't something being installed.

I have just completely removed it again, cleared the folders etc.
Installed the new 4.2.1 and still the same.

So i was able to find the issue. I am running McAfee Endpoint Security 10.7.0.2522 on my platform and i found that the issue was the AMSI Script Scanning part of McAfee. If i went into McAfee ENS Admin on the desktop and unchecked the box for AMSI, DCU was able to find and create the inventory file as it should. Then i could re-enable AMSI and run DCU like normal. So far I am trying to find a process name to exclude, as just excluding the inventory file name is not working.

We recently updated to McAfee ENS 10.7.0.2687 and since that time DCU has stopped working. I've tried disabling AMSI with no change, then disabled everything in ENS but still no change.

In my previous post, the PC in question is an OptiPlex 7060.
Additional info, I tested DCU on another PC (OptiPlex 5080) and got the same results. I also tried to update BIOS to v1.4.0 with the standalone executable and got an "Unable to find OS Protocol Access Interface" error. In this case, disabling McAfee ENS AMSI allowed the update to go through.

Further info, I had to uninstall the McAfee Threat Prevention and Adaptive Threat Protection pieces for DCU to start working again on my PC. I reinstalled them and did another DCU check, it was successful but I don't know how long it will stay that way.

Any news about it? I find it weird to have to disable some system protection just to check for updates...
