Dell Latitude 5411 High idle frequency
Hi! I have Dell Latitude 5411 i7-10850H I'm laptop getting hot. I want to describe symptoms depends on BIOS (or either on Power manager software too)
1.3.1:
- Constant fan noise even on low temperatures
- CPU Frequency Stuck on 0.78GHz (0.8GHz) after changing thermal management to Cool or Quite
1.4.3 (Currently installed):
- Fan Speed was resolved
- Now even on ilde (4%-5%) CPU load. CPU is on 2.3 - 2.5GHz with temperatures about 55-60C
Thermal management plan is Optimized.
Windows power plan is Balanced
Windows Power mode: Better battery.
Turbo Boost Disabled (if enable CPU became hotter and louder)
SpeedStep enabled in BIOS
I understand that 10850H is 45W CPU and it could be hot. Okay, but i'm ready it to be hot on load.
With this issue, it could live on battery only 3-4 hours
Why CPU just cant work at 0.8Ghz at idle and save power?

here Graps after clean reboot. No saftware launched, but ITU and Task Manager. On grpaph you cold see 1.45 min freq and 2.45 max freq. At Absolutely idle. System was about 10 minutes at idle before i launched ITU to be sure than all startup tasks are done.
So at absolute idle frequency jumps between 1.45 - 2.00 GHz Fan never shut up.
I previosly own Presicion 7510. I realize that it has more powerful cooling system, but 5411 i cant leave powered on at night, because it is noisy.

Another curious thing, that at settings mentioned above 2,58 is the max frequency CPU could reach.
I switched Windows power mode to Best performance and maz cpu freq. rised to 2.68 and stucked on it

View status messages that inform you if tests are completed successfully
View error messages that inform you of problems encountered during testing
NOTE: Some tests for specific devices require user interaction. Always ensure that you are present at the computer terminal when the diagnostic tests are performed.

Just want to remind my problem:
1) If i do nothing heavy on laptop and utilization is 0-5% i want it to stay as cool as possible
2) Modern or Connected stand by (Sleep S0) i not usable on the machine, because of fan don't stop in sleep mode and I turned S3 Sleep back on
I believe my Idle problem and and Connected sleep are related

With turbo boost enabled behaviour is very bad

Set the Dell power manager settings on Optimized. Reboot and disable Intel Speed Step in the Bios. Reboot again. This solved it for me on my 5411 as well as similar coworkers laptops. Dell power manager is a joke and will betray you. Leave it on optimized and never touch it again.
