E6430 CPU Upgrade

Hi All,

I was wondering if someone can help...I have a Latitude E6430 it has 16 gig of RAM Windows 10, Samsung 860 EVO drive,upgraded screen 1600x900 resolution,back lit keyboard, Intel on-board graphics,and the 7260 Intel wireless card

I am looking to upgrade the CPU from an I5-3320 2.6 GHZ Dual core to an i7-3540M 3.0GHz Dual Core or possibly a quad core I7 can this be done without worrying about overheating issues or modifications

I basically use the machine for processing photos,watching movies no game playing

I actually can get the i7-3540M 3.0GHz Dual Core for around $60.......is it worth it to do this upgrade ????

Thanks in advance....shirschb2

@SHKJ6961,

The Latitude E6430 does support the i7-3540M 3.0GHz Dual Core processor.

Regarding cooling: The E6430 has 2 heatsink part numbers. 9C7T7 for Nvidia motherboard. 0XDK0 for Intel motherboard.

So it appears you do not need to upgrade the cooling for the processor upgrades.

@SHKJ6961,

As I said, the Latitude E6430 supports the i7-3540M 3.0GHz Dual Core processor.

Therefore, your desired upgrade should go fine if you so choose to do so.

Welcome to the Dell Community  @SHKJ6961

I must have misread the same thing???

The i7-3540M has the same "TDP" and "Stepping" but a 57% success rate???

http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Core_i5_Mobile/i5-3320M_(PGA).html

If I have the CPU at work I will test and post the results???

Best regards,

U2

P.S. Dell needs to add a "Time Stamp" when people change/edit a post/reply.

@SHKJ6961

Removed the i5-3340M CPU.

Installed the i7-3540M CPU.

Works fine.

Boots to BIOS and will start to install W10.

I'm considering doing the same thing. I have a Core i7-3720QM and am considering upgrading the CPU to Core i7-3740QM. Is it possible to upgrade with a Core i7 3820QM or Core i7-3840QM? They are both 45W CPUs.

@SLR-430

I'll be heading to the warehouse in a few hours.

If I have that CPU I will test it and let you know.

There is an 83% chance of success.

I have tested ones with less % and have succeeded.

Let you know what I find.

While you are at it, can you test and see what is the fastest 45W CPU that can be fitted to one of these machines.

@SLR-430

Sorry but I do not have the Core i7 3820QM or Core i7-3840QM to test.

I do have the Core i7-3740QM:

Worked fine and started W10 install.

NOTE:Just as I was posting this I seen the notification of your reply.

I'll ask my warehouse guys if they have any units that may have the Core i7 3820QM or Core i7-3840QM.

But that would be about the max.

I'd appreciate that. 3840QM would be ideal.

After doing some research on Techinferno site, seems like 3940XM will work with the QM77 Chipset. THe only thing is that its a 55W and i am not sure what would be effects of it as far as performance and cooling. Have anyone tried this?
