Lat E6410, w7>w10 upgrade, now no built in monitor display

Lat E6510, i7-M640, 4gb, 320gbHDD, Intel GMA HD graphics, circa 2011, barely used, like new. A seniors unit, cannot afford new one.
Did Win7Pro > Win10-32bit Windows Upgrade Assistant (not clean install), all appeared to go well, no issues.

However, once upgrade finished, got the "windows sound" and the built in monitor (BIM) went dark. Hard boot, same thing. Hooked an external VGA monitor to the port, and that worked (monitors duplicated).

BIOS at latest A17, could not find any Win 10 display adapter drivers-Dell or Intel.

MSConfig: boot into safe mode-Minimal and the BIM works.
Boot Normal mode, only the external monitor displays.
DevMan shows the external as P2312 (correct) and the BIM as generic pnp monitor.

Its like some driver or something keeps the BIM from displaying.
Any ideas?  Pls help me get this senior back on track.

Found many answers here.

System had Intel HD graphics driver 8.15.10.2990 and that one did not seem to work.
In the c:\Drivers folder was the original driver. Installed v8.15.10.2182  19/07/2010 and that worked. Built in display now works correctly on Windows 10 startup.

I did not turn OFF windows updates, as suggested. We will see how long the old driver lasts, & if it survives future windows updates.

@softheads

Go online and run Check for Updates app.

I have a E6400 and that is what I did.

All Windows 10 Pro updates done.

Dell command update and Dell Support Assist did not find any Dell updates (I think the system is just too old for those utilities to work). Manually updated BIOS.

Still no luck on seeing display on built in monitor.

What does Device Manager show?

If I can run Windows 10 on E6400, E6410 should work.
