Latitude 3420 will not PXE boot

Hello everyone !

I have a few 3420's which simply will not PXE boot an image.

It appears that the installer file is downloaded, the system connects to our PXE server but then we are just stuck at Loading Files and it doesn't budge.

We have done several changes to the BIOS, ensuring that RAID is off and we changed the mode to AHCI. BIOS has been flashed and updated any relevant drivers too but no luck.

Any ideas ? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm seeing the same issue, changing the switch port speed to 100Mbps Full Duplex instead of Auto allows it to PXE boot at a more reasonable speed!

In case your not seeing the progress bar:

Hopefully a BIOS fix for this as well.

"You may notice that the file transfer progress bar is not visible in PXE boot on Latitude xx20."

We have the new BIOS unfortunately on these devices so it appears not all options are available.

Thanks very much @clamb.

Although our PXE boot is slow due to our hardware we are now out of the hole we found ourselves in thanks to you.

UPDATE: I've been discussing this issue with Dell's support.

On the 22nd October I informed them "You can reproduce this problem by PXE booting from the onboard Intel I219-V using a 1000Mbps (1Gbps) network switch with the port speed set to Auto-Sensing."

Today they tell me, "Yes the engineers did check and the system has a Realtek RTL8111H card, not an Intel card and all the required drivers are included in the Deployment pack. The Realtek RTL8111H card can handle 1000mbps that the information we received from the internal team."

BIOS version 1.13.3 (and 1.14.1) solves the progress bar and the incorrect scaling in WinPE.
