Latitude 7400 2-in-1 Thunderbolt firmware update hangs
The file is Intel_TBT3_FW_UPDATE_NVM44_8JT0F_A01_4.44.112.009
Each time I run it, whole machine freezes. I have to force shutdown.
Reinstalled bare Windows 10 several times, no help.

Same issue on my "regular" Latitude 7400 (i.e. not a 2-in-1).

Talked with Dell support. Let's see how they investigate. Wasted quite some time on this. Looks like a software bug.

Be interested to know the outcome here. Same issue with a 7300 and updating within Windows. Is there an option to update via a bios menu?

@jimmyholdem I think the only update you can install from the BIOS is an actual BIOS update, not firmware updates for other components. I'm just waiting until the next update arrives since I'm not actually having any problems with my Thunderbolt 3 controller on its current firmware level and there's nothing in the release notes to suggest that I should consider installing it despite not having any problems at the moment, so it's hardly worth my time trying to keep installing this.

We are running into the same issue with our new DELL 7300/7400's (non 2-in-1). We did some testing on several systems here and we've found that this issue happens as soon as you update to BIOS 1.6.1. Once updated, it appears you no longer can update any firmware including the TB. We attempted to downgrade the BIOS but it freezes as well. It will, however, allow you to re-flash it again to 1.6.1. Curious to know if everyone here is on BIOS 1.6.1?

Running my Lat 7300 on BIOS 1.6.1. Can confirm, switching off SMM Security Mitigation allowed me to install the Thunderbolt 3 firmware update. No need to downgrade the BIOS for me. Thanks, @jbeckers for finding this out.

Yes is working and no more freeze. Manage update TB3 and TPM 2.0 firmwares.

Thanks for the hint. Mine is 7400 2-in-1 and newest BIOS is 1.6.0. Don’t know if it’s the same issue and fix. Is this SMM setting in BIOS? Will check it out in a few days when I get reach to the laptop.
