Reading BIOS passthrough MAC addr Latitude 7490

Hi!

I'm trying to automate the installation of our Latitude 7x90 machines with SCCM and would like to read the passthrough mac address (for the usb-c docks) without having the machine hooked up to a dock.

It should be possible with the Platform Tags Utility, but it doesn't seem to support the 7x90 models.

I've only found version 4.0.27 of the Platform Tags Utility. Is there a newer version to be found, supporting 7x90 models?

Best regards,

I'm having the same issue. Would you have found a solution yet?

PlatformTags64W.exe -- Version 4.0.27.0
(C) Copyright 1993-2018 Dell Inc.

ERROR: Could not access the BIOS interface to read the tag

BIOS EFI return code = (1)
Application return code (0xFF)

Re: Reading BIOS passthrough MAC addr Latitude 7490

I can't answer the question about the Platform Tags Utility, and I realize this doesn't help the automation situation much, but fyi you don't need a dock to check the passthrough MAC.  That's displayed in the BIOS Setup.  Go into the BIOS Setup, select the System Information/Summary section at the top of the list at the left, and scroll down the readout at the right.  You'll find both the Passthrough MAC and the NIC1 MAC listed there.  The one that gets used for passthrough depends on how you've configured the NIC Passthrough setting in another section of the BIOS.  The system can be set to pass through either the dedicated Passthrough MAC or the NIC1 MAC.  The latter option is useful for environments that want to be able to identify their systems consistently on the network regardless of whether they're docked or undocked, but it means that you cannot use the dock and built-in NICs simultaneously.

Interesting, thanks. I was not aware this option existed.

The option is listed under "POST Behaviour - MAC Address Pass-through".

It might indeed cause issues when both the dock and the laptop are connected to wired network, but that seems unlikely.

Now just find a way to configure the setting by code.

@BrechtMo, Dell Command | Configure should be able to handle this since it's expressly designed to deal with deploying BIOS configuration templates among other things, but I admit I haven't looked into that solution in detail.
