I've had the same on a Latitude 7400 for many weeks and Dell cannot fix it.
I've had replacement 2 x motherboard, camera, OS reinstall, obviously all drivers updated, devices removed and added from device manager, etc. and still it happens. This is painful.

Which software are you using to check the mic functionality? Have you updated the BIOS firmware along with audio drivers if not you can download it from the given link https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/latitude-e7440-ultrabook/drivers.
Does the noise persist only when using any particular application? Have you tried checking using an external earphone with Mic?
