XPS 13 2020 developer edition release date?

Now that it is February I've been eagerly checking for the availability of the new XPS 2020 dev edition , but I haven't seen it appear yet on dell.com/linux .  Do we have an estimated date on when it will be available?

Looks like the 2020 XPS (9300) is now available on the Dell store:

However, RAM configurations are still limited to 16GB and a paltry 256GB disk space.

It appears to be released now, but there's no 32gb ram version? Should we keep waiting for that one? The whole release process around this laptop has been awkward... first windows laptops appeared, now a few ubuntu ones but not the really powerful ones I read about earlier... and we're at the end of Feb. I'm considering just waiting for the mbp 13 with a functional keyboard now.

I'm on the "take my money please" list, but if Dell doesn't end this radio silence soon, I'll be buying something else.

I do understand your feeling.

I got the XPSs 13" with Linux, and 15" with Windows. It definitely worth to wait.

This configuration is just amazing, with a full support of Linux. Wow.

Can't wait more! But have to.

I decided to give Dell's online chat a go and the representative said that they expect the 32GB option to be released in the next couple of weeks.  So it seems that the option is just delayed a bit, not canned entirely.

Yea, I initially thought that too, @morgwai. It took a lot of hunting around, but you can configure a better system with Ubuntu: https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/dell-laptops-and-notebooks/new-xps-13-9300-developer-edition/spd/xps-13-9300-laptop/ctox13w10p1c2700u. The most performant configuration that allows is,

  • 10th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-1065G7 Processor (8MB Cache, up to 3.9 GHz)

  • Ubuntu Linux 18.04

  • 16GB 3733MHz LPDDR4x Memory Onboard

  • 2TB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive

which comes to a total of $1,849.99 USD, before tax. Still not the 32GB they promised (beginning to think that was some vaporware), but it is something.

Dell definitely needs to work on their SEO.

is this a joke, dell??

32GB RAM is finally available, but not with Ubuntu!!!  only the very weakest configuration is available with ubuntu: laughable 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, i5 CPU... that's like my config 11 years ago... you will not see my money ;-]

yeah, but this thread is *specifically* about 32GB RAM ;-]

I've been having 16GB of RAM on my laptop for 7 years now and unless dell offers me a real upgrade to this, I don't intend to waste my money...

Cheers!

Been able to order one in France. Went for the 4k display, 16 Gb ram, 1 Tb M.2 model (selected Ubuntu + went for the most pricey one without looking at details). No idea when package will be sent as we have that Covid problem like everyone else

Let us know how the battery life is.

I got the XPS 13 7390 2-in-1 Ice Lake 32GB OLED configuration, produced somewhere in Sep 2019, and battery life is rather abysmal. Lucky to get 4h of working time out of it. Fortunately, DELL does have portable charger/batteries, I have the https://www.dell.com/en-sg/work/shop/dell-hybrid-adapter-power-bank-usb-c-ph45w17-ca-45w-ac-adapter-notebook-power-bank-43wh/apd/492-bcdd/pc-accessories so I think I will survive this weak effort, but still - not what I thought I'd be getting for € 2k.
