XPS 13 9370 no bluetooth after suspend

I got a new XPS 13 a couple of days ago. Everything works great with Ubuntu *except* for bluetooth. After a suspend, the bluetooth is lost and doesn't come back. I tried to remove and install the bluetooth driver with `modprobe -r btusb; modprobe btusb` and to restart the bluetooth service but neither things worked. I also reinstalled from factory defaults (just in case) and the problem persists.

You're /sys/bus/pci/rescan

Nothing helps

Hi All,

I've been notified that new firmware has been released, and initial testing shows it resolves the 'no Bluetooth after suspend' issue.  This is still being validated internally, but for now you can find it here:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/commit/?id=2ddd8f0f33972a96f34722de6165ed88a6231f9d

Let us know your results!

Thanks,

Geoff #iworkatdell

Hello Geoff,

I haven't had the problem of the adapter disappearing anymore but after suspending my devices don't connect anymore. The adapter is visible by the system (a big step forward) but I always have this error in my journal when I scan my bluetooth devices:

kernel: Bluetooth: hci0: last event is not cmd complete (0x0f)

This is with Ubuntu 18.10 and Linux 4.18.0-10-generic

It's possible to remove the known devices and pair them again. But to get the already paired devices back I have to do a cold boot again (even a warm boot doesn't help).

@marcauxI've updated firmware exactly this way.

However, after few days bluetooth don't disappear anymore.

But now both wifi and bluetooth missing :( Although, it has quick workaround - send laptop to sleep and wake it up

you are right. After a long time it went quite well for me but today after suspending, cut the power cord, connect power and external monitor it was again gone. WIFI still works though.

There is also something really weird going on with the xhci usb driver. Before updating the qca firmware I just connected the external Dell display USB ports via the right USB-C port. Exactly after that the bluetooth adapter was gone.

Today after waking up from sleep when the BT adapter was gone again I had a lot of xhci USB driver related errors in my journal and it took minutes until the device came back to life.

I just wanted to confirm this very behavior with my XPS13 Ubuntu edition. I am running XUbuntu 18.04.

Bluetooth first died after every suspend, firmware upgraded -> worked for a while and now it dies again.

You, at least, can install a new WIFI card, like from Intel.

For the Killer one nothing makes a difference - please guys check the thread before posting the same things over and over.

We have to wait for a Firmware / Kernel fix.

Are you saying other wifi cards don't have this problem? If so, which ones don't have this problem?

You could try an Intel card for example.

This thread is just for the XPS 13 9370 though - with this model it's not possible to change the chipset because it's soldered onto the mainboard.

A new firmware version (0.1.6.3) was released a few days ago but from the release notes it does not appear to address the issue described in this topic

New uefi didn't help. Today bluetooth dissappeared once more.

Have

  1. updated qca firmware from linux-firmware git
  2. updated uefi firmware 1.6.3

Need to mention that p.1 helps a lot, bluetooth missing occurs very occassionnally, but still missing :(
