Driver Downloads

I recently purchased a used Optiplex 960 in order to add a Windows based machine to my local home network. For various reasons, I find myself in the position of loading the OS from ISO sources which are downloading. Prior to letting the Optiplex machine access the web, I need to get updated drivers, BIOS, and so forth. Unfortunately, the download website will not download files to anything other than a Dell machine running some flavor of Windows. The technical eMail interface will not recognize the Dell Product ID which I got from the machine in question. I have a fully functional internet interface using Firefox browser running under Linux Mint Olivia. What do I need to do to download the drivers I need. NOTE: I DO NOT WANT TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL. I only want to download. My email address is included in my profile. What I am asking for is contact through eMail from someone who can answer questions of a technical nature. I am a computer design engineer by training. I designed test equipment for automated digital electronics lines which assembled various products including motherboards and peripheral cards. I have been working with this stuff since the IBM XT days, so I am sort of familiar with what CAN be done. I need to download drivers, ISOs, and whatever to update any firmware. I know the machine is functional because I can run Live linux distros on it. I do want to install the Windows7 for which I have a Microsoft Product Key, however I can't put the machine on the internet until I do. I cannot load the WIN7 properly without updated drivers and firmware from Dell.

Hi kenkne2000,

You can just download the driver on the system and transfer it to the OptiPlex system. I would suggest you to download the latest updated drivers for your system from our Dell website using Internet explorer. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the Operating system and then download the necessary drivers onto the USB drive.

Also, please refer to the link below for correct order for installing the drivers on the computer.

Please let me know if this helps.

Please read my original email. In the interim which version of internet explorer for linux would you suggest that I use? From where do I download it for my main machine? I do NOT run windows in day to day activity. That IS the reason for the purchase of the Optiplex. It came from a long term lease agreement with a license for Win7 Home. I am now downloading the necessary files to reinstall that to suit my needs with a custom install. I trained Gateway 2000 technical support phone techs and am familiar with Microsoft products back to DOS 1.0. I will be glad to comply with the use of Internet Explorer if you can tell me where to get a version which runs under either Linux Mint 15 or Debian Sid. Thank you for your interest, but your included suggestion for accessing your site has the exact same problems which started this round of e Mails. There are other portals into your site which may be found via appropriate searches with Google and Duck Duck Go. I have been able to get most of the drivers I think I need until such point that I can bring the Dell machine online. I am interested in Internet Explorer for Linux.
