Official Dell Mini Ubuntu upgrade to 9.04?

Hi everyone!

I recently purchased a Dell Mini 10v (love it!) which came pre-installed with Dell's optimized version of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS.

Since then, Dell has announced its netbooks would soon ship with Ubuntu 9.04. My question is: will there be a way for people who bought their Minis with 8.04 to upgrade to the new "official" Dell version of 9.04? What will the upgrade method be?

Finally, how can we be notified of when this upgrade will be possible (if at all)?

If anybody knows the answers to these questions, it would be highly appreciated!

Dell have been supplying the 8.04 version of Ubuntu because that's the one in long-term support at the moment. You can always download a live-CD of a later version and try that, if you like it install it over the current version (backing up your user files first of course). Transferring the live-CD image to a USB key is straightforward, usb-creator works well on Ununtu systems.

Thanks for the reply...as it happens, I've already installed Karmic Koala (yes, I know it's unstable...but in fact it's remarkably stable on the Mini 10v). I was wondering if there was an official Dell Ubuntu newer than 8.04 available because the version of KK I installed is not optimized for lpia.

I did try out the Dell-optimized Ubuntu Moblin Remix, but the simplified interface is not for me (I've been using Linux for a little over 8 years now). Fortunately I had imaged my drive before so going back to stock Ubuntu was just a "dd" command away... :-)

I downloaded the Dell version of 9.04 which was released last week at http://en.community.dell.com/wikis/linux/ubuntu-9-04.aspx

I can't get the display to be 1280x800 -- it keeps giving me only 1024x768 -- and won't recognize the monitor as anything but generic

Please any assistance would be appreciated

Hi, Ubuntu 9.10 is due out next week, and you will  get the option to upgrade to the new version, through your current update dialog box.

First you have to upgrade fully into 8.10 then you will able to get full upgrade of UBUNTU 9.04. The upgrade procedure is same for 9.04. Pls follow the link instruction:
