Hi Smokemare,

You probably best to get the Ubuntu alternate 7.10 CD, do a text install, from there follow what options you want, etc. On finish of the install when you reboot, select recovery install.
You will be in a console, then make a backup copy of xorg.conf, then edit it and change the "nv" driver setting to "vesa" then reboot.

Next install envy at the following location: http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html

And then reboot. You probably be asked about the driver being restrictive and you have to enable it, this is straight forward.

Good luck!

Cheers.
