Master Database Restore

If I want to restore the backup Master Database to another server, is there anything I need to consider?

Hi zhaos

You dont explain your scenario for having to do this, great if you could ? It can be a pain moving, rebuilding master so generally best avoided.

However there was an intersting TechNet blog post on this topic a few weeks ago, suggesting restore the master  to another instance as another database, steps explained in the link, havnt tested this out in the lab so cant stress enough ...test before using.

Thanks Michael for your helpful answer!

The scenario could be Master DB corrupted or server failed.  The article you reccomended is very good guideline for Master DB restore, and the version match between source and target SQL server is critical for success restore.
