Dell Venue 11 Pro No Front Facing Camera in Hangouts

Just receive my Venue 11 Pro last week. I rely a lot on being able to use Google Hangouts. When I start a Hangout, it defaults to using my rear facing camera. When I got to the settings to select the front facing camera, the camera selection drop down menu is grayed out and reads "Integrated Webcam". I have switched off of HD video settings as other forums have recommended but still nothing. I have tried to find a way to disable the rear facing camera to force Hangouts to recognize the front camera, but can't find a way to disable the rear facing camera. Thanks for the help.

Work Around:

Edit the registry and change the friendly name for Front camera  (which is CAM1) from “Integrated Webcam” to something like “Integrated Webcam Front” and reboot the tablet. After reboot “Integrated Webcam Front” will appear in Lync and other apps as a option to select and will work.

Registry Edit:

"CLSID"="{17CCA71B-ECD7-11D0-B908-00A0C9223196}"

"FriendlyName"="Integrated Webcam Front"

Under the above folder in registry, there the five entries which has to be changed from “Integrated Webcam” to “Integrated Webcam Front”

Thanks. I downloaded and installed BIOS A09 but with no change. I can system update to check to see if there were any other drivers that needed an update but it said everything was recent.

I hopped on Skype to see if that had the front facing camera working and it does. But Google Hangouts still leaves me with no other options but the rear facing camera. I played with the bandwidth settings as well to no avail.

Same problem here. In Skype you can select the front webcam. In Cisco Jabber client and Lync 2013 you see and select two cameras but both show the rear camera view.

I had the exact same issue, latest drivers, latest firmware.  In the end, it looked like the Google Talk plug-in ignores the 2nd camera because it has the same Friendly Name as the first.  I had to go into the registry and change the Friendly Name of one of the cameras there.  Once done, Hangouts worked like a charm.

Warning: Edit the registry at your own risk.

Open the registry and navigate to:
HKLM\System\ControlSet001\Control\DeviceClasses

Search for "Integrated Webcam"

It will take you to one of the two camera's in the Venue.  Change the "Friendly Name" to something else, anything else as long as its different.

Good Luck.

Our organisation is the same. We want to use the DVP11 however cannot select the correct front webcam for Lync 2013. Dell Pro Support say it works ok for them ie. in Lync they can select front or rear webcam.

Hi <ADMIN NOTE: Email id removed per privacy policy>,

I did the same and worked for me as well. Now, Who will be fixing this issue for all our friends own Venue Pro 11. Is it Dell or Microsoft?

@Dell moderator,

Can you please take a note and clarify?

Thanks & Regards,

Saravanan R

Once I got into the "DeviceClasses" part of the regedit and ran a search, I found 10 different Integrated Webcams! Do I rename all of them?

Thanks saranrajappa & tempbrennanm, it took me some time but I figured it out and Google Hangouts is working for the first time on my Venue 11 Pro.

For others that might have trouble: DO NOT rename "FriendlyName" itself, but right click on "FriendlyName", then click Modify, then change the value data to "Integrated Webcam Front". That seems obvious to me now, but it took me awhile to figure that out!

Is there any official update from Dell on this issue?  Is it a Dell issue or a Google Hangouts issue?

I have the i5 version.

I have seen you post on other Venue 11 forums.

Also is there a way to have the dell driver update website actually show the updates that are needed on the system?

Thanks

I have applied the fix recommended by changing the friendly name of the front camera in the registry and it works for Hangout but not for Jabber. Is there something else specific for Jabber.

I have a different problem with Hangouts on the Dell Venue 8 Pro. I did a post about it on Google+ and I can a reply back from the people that work at Google. They know about the problem and are working in it.  The people at Google left a comment saying that they have ordered a Dell Venue 8 Pro to look at the problem.

Thank you for your response, but would you please give more details on how to tell which of the registry entries are for CAM1 (front) and which are for CAM2 (back)?

I suggest installing ManyCAM.  A simple and free webcam software.  Reboot and then Hangouts will see the front, back and the virtual camera.  Just set Hangouts to the front one, and away you go.

I have done this for 3 different Venue 11's so far.  Works every time!
