2408WFP Vertical Line issues
Hi
I purchased a 2408WFP monitor for my mother in 2008. She had no problems for 2 years. Then one day red/green vertical lines started to appear on the right side of the screen. Someone suggested that perhaps the video card was faulty so I replaced it. It didn't make any difference. I took the monitor to my house and tried it on my system and it still had the lines. I contacted Dell and they sent me a refurbished monitor. I plugged it in at her house and I immediately noticed the same red/green vertical lines. I contacted Dell again and they sent out another refurbished monitor. This time I tried it out at my house first. I had it here for 2 weeks and there was no vertical line issues. Although it did seem to have an issue where it would go black for a second and the the display port icon would come up in the upper left hand corner. I was debating on whether or not to return it for this other issue but I decided to try it at my mother's house to see if she had the same issue. I plugged it into her system and there was the red/green vertical lines again.
So now I'm at a loss. I'm so confused over this. I have the 2405FPW and I've never had any issues with it whatsoever. I had loaned this monitor to my mother while hers was at my house and she also never had any issues with it. Does anyone have any ideas for me? What should I do now? Should I return it to Dell for a third time? I have a hard time believing it's her computer since other people have had the same issue, but it's strange that it was at my house for 2 weeks and it was working fine. At least as far as the vertical lines were concerned.
Help!

At both homes, you need to test the monitor using all the ports one at a time. meaning having only one connected at a time.

Hi
Thanks for your response. At this point I fail to see how it will help matters for me to bring this monitor back to my house to test the ports. I had it here for 2 weeks using DVI-1. There was no vertical line issues but there was a problem with the screen going black for a second and the DVI port icon appearing in the corner of the screen. I do not have a VGA cable here, nor does my video card support HDMI. So that's out.
My mother has since reported that she has already experienced the black out issue using the HDMI port at her house. She also has the vertical line issue using the HDMI port. Now if I go there and hook up the DVI cable and try it out and it works, does that mean that I can't use the HDMI port on the monitor? What good is that? And what do I do about the screen going black for a second? Should I just accept that? Should I tell her it's ok for the screen to go black for a second and not to worry about it? I paid $560 for the monitor and it seems that I got burned on this deal. I've had 3 of them alreadyand none of them has worked right. I've done some reading on the internet and it seems that a lot of people have had these same issues.
I guess it's back to the phone for another hour with Dell. I'm not sure if I want them to send me another one or not. It seems that it's all I do now. Get refurbished monitors, test them for Dell, then send them back with my results.
Thanks.
