3007WFP-HC to my Studio XPS 15?

I've been trying to figure out ways to connect this 30" beast of a monitor to my Studio XPS 15 laptop with Nvidia GeForce GT540M, which I know is capable of putting out 2560x1600 resolution. I bought the BizLink displayport to dual link DVI adapter. This laptop has a mini-displayport out and HDMI out. so I bought a mini-displayport to female displayport adapter from monoprice which they promise to put out 2560x1600 resolution. What I can think is happening is in the software. Maybe there is a way to push the signal out? maybe force it because its not detecting a second display connected.

Very confusing with all these converters and of course none tested by Dell. Why not -
Laptop mDP out --> UltraAV Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D Dual-Link Adapter --> Dell DVI-D DL cable --> 3007WFP-HC DVI-D DL port

Maybe the mDP to DP converter is bad? I don't know.

Thanks for your help! I thought of the same issue and asked for another adapter. Apparently they don't think its the faulty adapter that's causing the problem.
