3007WFP, affordable DP to DVI-D DL adapter

Jump to solution

I just got a new system and have hit a snag. The new system comes with a Dell OEM Radeon RX 580 that only has DisplayPort and HDMI (HDMI 2.0?) outputs. Since my 30" Dell only has a dual-link DVI input, I'm in a bit of a pickle. Standard DVI to DP converters only support up to 1080p. There are some dual link converters, like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-DisplayPort-Active-Adapter-112784/dp/B013Z723JU

But almost all of these adapters have poor reviews. Some people can't get them to work at all at high resolution, or they flicker madly. OTOH, some people seem to get 1440p or 1600p to work without issue. I did find a very few expensive, USB-powered adapters ($100+) that get good reviews, but I'd rather not spend that kind of cash for an adapter.

So does anyone out there know of a reliable *dual-link* DVI adapter that works well with the 3007WFP?

P.S. If you're unaware, standard DVI can only go up to 1080p resolution. A dual-link DVI connector can go up to 1600p.

So I found one of these at deep discount =
DP to DVI DL adapter 4TPXP, $99, 2560x1600 60Hz

And it works. At first I had a problem with a small bit of snow on the screen, but I used a shorter cable and removed a DVI switch from the equation. It looks very good now.

That is a tough spot to be in. You are dealing with a 2017 technology computer and a 11 year old 2007 monitor. Back then, we only tested using DVI-D port and cable. Hopefully another 3007WFP owner can chime in.

@DELL-Chris M I know it seems kind of backwards to be using such an old monitor, but this thing still has a gorgeous screen and it would be a pity to scrap it because of a compatibility issue.

Does HDCP work over that adapter with the 3007wpf?

AMD Radeon Settings says that HDCP is not enabled. I don't know if there's a way to force it, but I very rarely watch HDCP content anyway. There may be a way to 'hack' it on, but I don't know how.
