Connecting Dell U2415 Monitor(s) to Dell Precision 5510

The Dell Precision 5510 does not have a DP or mDP slot.  How do I connect it to my two Dell U2415 monitors?

The monitors themselves are connected and were working fine with my old laptop (which had a mDP slot and was not a Dell model) - I followed the instructions to get those working.

However, the instructions do not account for your laptop not having a DP or mDP slot.

I bought a DP to HDMI cable - did not work.  I also have the SS - USB cable - also does not work.

Thanks in advance

I posted about this before but it appears to have gone missing.

I have 2 Dell U2415 monitors and just got a Dell Precision 5510.

The Dell Precision doesn't have a DP or mDP slot.

Is the only way for me to get both monitors working with it to buy a docking station (such as the Dell D3100 USB 3.0 Docking Station)?

I have tried DP to HDMI cables and all sorts of cable setups - nothing seems to work.  I can only connect to 1 monitor, not them both.

Thanks Chris, just to clarify am I connecting both cables to the same monitor or one cable to each?

The Precision 5510 has the TB3/USB Type-C out port and an HDMI out port. So you should be using the following setup =

Precision 5510 TB3/USB Type-C out port --> TB3/USB Type-C to DP adapter --> DP to mDP cable --> U2415 (mDP in port) DP 1.2 Disabled

Precision 5510 HDMI out port --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> Second U2415 (HDMI in port)

There are two ways you can do this. First and Second refer to Monitor 1 and Monitor 2.

No daisychaining =
Precision 5510 TB3/USB Type-C out port --> TB3/USB Type-C to DP adapter --> DP to mDP cable --> First U2415 mDP in port (DP 1.2 Disabled)

Precision 5510 HDMI out port --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> Second U2415 HDMI in port

Daisychaining =
Precision 5510 TB3/USB Type-C out port --> TB3/USB Type-C to DP adapter --> DP to mDP cable First U2415 mDP in port (DP 1.2 Enabled)

First U2415 DP out port --> DP to mDP cable --> Second U2415 mDP in port (DP 1.2 Disabled)

So I bought the Dell D3100 docking station, as I wanted to have a solution that will let me plug in other computers to the monitors.  I also didn't think this forum posting worked as it took days to get posted...

I have everything working - setup is that the 2 monitors are daisy chained by DP cable, enabled DP 1.2 in the settings and they are connected by DP cable to the docking station, which is connected to my Dell Precision by USB.

However, it is not recognizing that there are 2 monitors.  So the 2nd one is basically just a copy of the first one - I can't extend my screen to all 3.

Anything I might be missing that will let me do this?

The D3100 does not support DP1.2 so it cannot daisychain the U2415s. Notice in the D3100 setup guide that one monitor is connected to its DP out port, while the other monitors are connected to its HDMI out ports.

Also the matrix in the User's Guide page 3 does not show DP1.2 daisychain =

Lol good job Dell Support.  They told me to buy it.

Do you know of any docking stations that do support daisy chaining?

The TB16 is validated with the Precision 15-5510. With all of its video out ports, daisy chain is not needed.
