DELL 17" E176FPb Monitor Powersave issue

After a period of some days inactivity I returned to the computer to find that the monitor would not wake up.  I switched the screen on and off again to find the screen shows for 2 seconds then goes blank, if switch off and on again it shows for a further 2 seconds then off again.

I have disconnected from the computer and tried my old screen and it works fine.  I have disconnected the Dell screen and then connected to the power and the self test image shows for 2 seconds and then disappears so clearly the problem lies within the screen but is it fixable?
