DELL XPS 13 (2015) and SE2717H - blurry, generic monitor

Hello,

I've recently stared to use a SE2717H connected via miniDP - HDMI adapter. The screen is blurry, adjusting the clearType settings in W10 doesn't help. Intel HD5500 has up to date drivers. The monitor driver cannot be installed: "No supported monitor", also it shows up as Generic Monitor at Device Manager.

I've switched from s2340l which was working perfelctly with the same XPS, HDMI cable and adapter.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Are you using any DPI scaling?

Here is a helpful article from Microsoft

No. This is a fullHD monitor (just like the old one) same as  the XPS builtin display - so DPI scaling should not be an issue. With the same cables that served the old 23" monitor without any problem the se2717 is blury. Cannot install the driver it is recognized as general monitor.

Would you be able to elaborate more on what is blurry? Is it just the text or is it everything.

Ensure connections are secure.

Check DPI scaling, screen resolution, and refresh rates (set to 60hz). (which you have done).

Go into device manager under display adapters and if it is showing an error on detecting, then first try to roll back the driver on the second monitor and restart. If that won't work ,try to update the driver through device manager and then restart.

Make sure you are not using a third party program to merge the displays, such as dualhead2go.

Windows 10 does have some issues detecting secondary monitors. Its not uncommon for issues like this to occur. This could also be what is contributing to the problem.
