I have a Dell S2409W LCD monitor connected to a recently purchased Acer notebook. The Acer notebook has been set up to have the display go into power saving after 20 minutes. However, instead of sleeping, the monitor goes into "self test mode", with the "no VGA cable" notice bouncing around the screen.
* Operating System: Vista
* Monitor ports tested: Only VGA as the notebook doesn't have DVI
* Have you updated the video card driver? Yes
Does it still occur after resetting (OSD button- Other Settings- Factory Reset) the monitor? Have you tried this monitor on another PC to check the power save?
Chris, many thanks for your speedy reply.
I did the Factory Reset but it didn't help.
I tried it with an Acer 23" LCD monitor in the office and the monitor initially said "no signal" and then immediately went into Power Saving, which is the correct operation.
I feel the "Self test feature" of the Dell monitor is the potential design issue as this problem also occurs with my other Dell 24" monitor used with a Benq notebook.
Do you have any other workarounds I can try?
No. Will keep checking.
