U3011, no wake after DP enters sleep mode

Hi, I'm a first time poster.  My Dell Latittude E6410 is in the docking station and connects to a Dell U3011.  The Dell 3011 does not wake up when the DisplayPort input goes into sleep mode (I have it set at 30 minutes).  I did not have this issue with my previous monitor, the Dell U2410, which was connected by DisplayPort. My workaround is to undock the laptop and the redock it each time I need to use my computer.  Does anyone else have this issue?  Is there a real solution?

I spoke too early. I tested by putting the MBP to sleep manually and waking up the MBP by hitting a keyboard key. U3011 did wake up. But after 10 mins of use it flashed the screen with noise screen and went back to sleep. I just couldn't make the U3011 wake up (tried re connecting the display port cable, power nothing worked). I had to restart the MBP. I have a refurb u3011 rev 01 bought 2 days ago. I guess I will call Dell tomorrow.

Earlier I was keeping the MBP screen/lid closed, but now I am keeping it open. The u3011 seems to be waking up properly. Will see...

In the forum about u2711 they also talk about  the DP wire that comes with the dell display being not the right one.

Yes, it works when attached directly to the laptop.

Is anyone from Dell going to address this thread/issue?

In what way? There are many configurations in this thread we never tesed (mac, laptop, power management, etc.).

Thanks for the reply Chris.

My configuration may be a pretty good place to start since it's a complete chain of Dell hardware.

Dell M6500 Covet with an nVidia FX3800M.

Dell Eport Plus replicator using DP++ out from the docking station on either displayport++ output.

Dell U3011, A01 firmware.

Please let me know if you need any other specific info about what I'm using with regards to this hardware combination.

Edit:  Power management is variable.  I use balanced (default settings) most of the time and high performance on occasion.  Powered display standby settings are really all I've modified to get around having to manually power cycle the 3011 and/or undock the 6500 when the display enters standby and won't come back on.

Edit 2:  s/HDMI/DP\+\+.  Sorry about the confusion.

As mentioned earlier, the monitor works fine and returns from sleep mode fine when attached the laptop.  When the e-port replicator is between the monitor and laptop, the monitor does NOT return from sleep mode.

Dell Latitude E6410

Docking Station

Dell U3011 Monitor

Any recommended fixes would be appreciated.

And the exact issue? Have you tested the monitor directly to the laptop minus the replicator?

May 20th, 2011 13:00

Yes, the monitor is connected to the docking station's display port when the laptop is docked.  My e-port dock is A00.  A while back, Dell sent me a new e-port dock (also A00) but the issue remained.

So your conclusions are that the disconnect is occuring in the docks DP port?

Chris,

That may be the case with handRaisedCallMe, but I just re-performed the following test:

Undocked the M6500 and connected it to it's power supply

Unplugged the DP cable from the back of the eport plus dock and into the side displayport input on the M6500.  The 3011 immediately turned on.

Set the Win7-64 "Balanced" power management scheme to put the monitor to sleep in 1 minute.  Saved.

Came back two minutes later, the 3011's amber colored power light was on.

Hit a key on the M6500.  First the displayport "icon" in the top left came on the 3011.  The second message displayed was "Entering sleep mode" on the 3011.  This is what happens with the Eport plus as well.

So in my case no, the dock doesn't seem to be the culprit.

Yes, the docks DP port seems to be where the disconnect occurs after entering sleep mode.

Same problem here with a u3011 and a 2010 MBP 15." Disabling DDC/CI did not fix the issue. I would prefer the laptop to have its lid closed, but I'll try it with it open. The strange thing is this issue seems to be intermittent. It worked fine for a few days (even before I disabled DDC/CI) and then all of a sudden is back to square one. Could automatic graphics switching have anything to do with it?

Not impressed with Dell's support: "contact Macintosh for this issue, since this is a Mac issue."
