Dell Webcam Manager

I just received a new Dell XPS 420 with a SP2309W monitor with builtin webcam.  when i try to run the dell Webcam Manager, I get an error message stating that the webcam driver is not installed.  I installed the webcam software from the CD dell included, so not sure what is going on.  the webcam seems to work when accessed through Dell Webcam Central.

Any thoughts?  Is this a possible compatibility problem between this new monitor and Webcam Manager that Dell hasn't tested out yet?

Chris - which version of the Dell manager do you recommend for the Latitude e6500 running windows 7?  I can use the webcam, but can't get the webcam manager to recognize the integrated webcam.

Hi,

I've experienced the same 'driver not installed' message. I installed the webcam manager software recommended (R199836) but still get that message. I have a Studio 1535 laptop and am using the latest Creative integrated webcam drive off of the Dell support site. OS is Vista 32 Home Premium. I'd really appreciate knowing if there are other drivers I should be using or if there's a workaround to this problem. It seems pretty common!

thanks

I have just bought a vostro 1720 laptop, couldn`t get anywhere with the webcam, even the remost assistant from Dell couldn`t, had to eventually download a Vista driver to enable  it. not impressed with Dell, this item was sold to me under false pretences. So be aware...windows 7 has NO driver for a webcam as yet....

I also have a E6500 in which I am running Windows 7 x64 but cannot get the WebCam application to recognize the builtin webcam.  External applications like Skype work fine with the webcam.  I am hoping you can hellp me out.  Thx....

I used a program called manycam and it works great. I can actually use the webcam at will and take snapshots. Recording video is another thing, but at least the camera is useful now. Hope this helps for all those Windows 7 - E6500 people...

Hello Chris! I'm looking for the latest version of Webcam Manager for the integrated webcam of my XPS M1730; I just want to know if the file R199836.exe is still the latest one.

If I download and install this Webcam application, should I first install the driver for the webcam (R160323.EXE) or is it included with the application installer?

Thanks!

I am not sure about the Laptops. I am the Desktop Liaison. Ask the guys on the Laptop General Hardware board.

Okay I'll do that.

Would you at least tell me if the Webcam application includes the webcam drivers, or should I install the drivers separately prior to installing the application?

Also, I see that my XPS M1730 is compatible with the file R199836 ( ). Does this mean that I can use it with my laptop's integrated webcam? Could you please clarify this for me?

Thanks for your timely reply!

I am now confused. To what specific external monitor is the M1730 connected?

You cannot have both the Laptop webcam and the Monitor webcam running at the same time. If you want to use the Monitors webcam, you must disable the Laptop webcam.
