My Dell flat screen monitor (2005) is very faint when turned on and fades to black in 3 seconds. Must turn off then on to get to the 3 sec faint screen again. Monitor was flickering the day before this happened. Dell won't accept the service tag number from the back so have been unable to access tech support. With no monitor, I can't have Dell detect the service tag.
It sounds like the monitor backlight is failing. We do not have replacement monitor components. We would simply replace the whole thing if under warranty. Only the 27" and 30" monitors have a Service Tag number. All other monitors would use the Dell Order number found on the original Dell invoice. If you only have a Dell order number for your monitor, you should contact Order Support for your country.
