Different serial numbers of U3014 monitor on the back panel and at the WMI

Jump to solution

Hi, I'm doing an inventory of IT-equipment.

I got a problem with DELL U3014's serial numbers:

DELL Monitors have different serial numbers on the back panel and at the WmiMonitorID class.

For example, there is 20 digit alpha-numeric serial number, like CZ-0F525M-73608-021-341L, on the back panel and there is 12 digit alpha-numeric serial number, like F525M021341L at the WmiMonitorID class.

Why is this happening?

Is there any official document that explains this replacement of serial number?

I have no problem with monitors of another manufacturer.

Because the Dell order number is lost, there is no way that you or Dell can prove any warranty. Without proof, Dell will only warranty the monitor for 3 years based off of the serial number.  This sounds like counterfeit material in non usa or EBAY or something other than Dell.

CZ-0F525M-73608-021-341L = February 1, 2010 to February 1, 2013  from a U2410

That number was taken from this forum.

First 2 letters is country of origin.  MX = Mexico  CN=China  CZ=Czech Repubic etc.

0F525M is the Dell Part number.  This is an IEMEA part number.

It is not a U3014

Thanks!

I copied serial number from "Read this first before posting" topic of this forum (because the serial number is confidential).

I need that data to understanding inconsistencies of accounting data (20 digit alpha-numeric serial number) and IT-inventory data (12 digit alpha-numeric serial number from WMI)

Update:

How to encode date from 20 digit alpha-numeric serial number? I copied "February 1, 2010" into Excel and got "40210". I have no idea what part of serial number is a date.

If we look at the example listed for the U2410 =
CZ-0F525M-73608-021-341L

CZ = Country
F525M = Dell part number
73608 = confidential
021 = date code (0 = 2010, 2 = February, 1 = 1st)
341L = confidential
