Inspiron 1525 HDMI output does not fill 1920x1080 monitor even though the resolution is set correctly

My system Dell Inspiron 1525

Windows Vista Home Premium SP2

3GB RAM

Mobile Intel 965 Express

HDMI and VGA out

Here's the strange thing, (aside from this not being an HDMI Audio problem thread), when I connect to the monitor, (an Acer H243H) with HDMI, the picture goes to the monitor but the desktop is reduced in the frame, so there is an area of black outside the desktop, even though the graphics properties show as 1920 x 1080. It is clearly not scaled correctly, because the text is garbled.  I don't get this problem when I connect through the VGA, (my Inspiron 1525 has no DVI output).

I had, for a short time before it pooched out on me, (two days), an HP monitor, also native 1920 x1080 with HDMI input and I had the same problem.

Is there a box in the graphics properties I'm not clicking, or an advanced tab that is missing.

Has anyone had this problem and overcome it?

Chris

You need to look in the Display Properties for the the Video Scaling function.
