My display is running on 16-bit colour and low resolution....

i have a dimension 4100 and it is running on 16-bit colour. when I change it back to 256 bit colour (which is what it should be) it does the usual and tells me to reset my computer to administrate the changes but it still isnt changing and I have a terrible, square, low quality display I cant even properly see images and Im not to good with computers, can someone please give me a very simply explained solution? thanks

If it will not change from 16 bit color, and resolution will not increase either, most likely you need to reinstall your Video Card driver. To verify this, check your System Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, Find your Video Adapter file, expand it, see whether it shows your video card or something like; Windows safe or default driver. If the latter,  good chance you need to reinstall your video driver. Even if it shows your dedicated device driver though, it may be corrupted.
