I have a DELL 2208WFP monitor that has always scaled correctly at 1680x1050 res. I had a new graphics card installed (PNY NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti) and updated drivers for it as necessary, now my desktop won't scale correctly when I change res to 1680x1050. It gives me the resolution I picked but forces me to scroll over to see rest of desktop.
How can I fix this? I can't find an 'auto-sync' feature on the monitor itself.
Des the 2208 show in the device manager? The + button is autoadjust.
When I contacted Dell about the same issue, it was determined that the monitor was bad.
We ran the self test and the monitor said it was fine. We reset the monitor back to factory standards, but there was no change in behavior.
I happened to have both an extra video card and an additional monior.
When I swapped the video cards, the issue peristed.
When I swapped the monitor, the image was correct at all resolutions, it scaled properly.
I highly recommend borrowing a monitor from a friend to see if it is indeed the monitor or the video card.
ON A SIDE NOTE... I purchased the monitor at the end of October and opened my trouble ticket at the end of February. This means that the monitor was less than 5 months old, with over 2 1/2 years left on the warranty.
Per Dell, since the monitor is more than 21 DAYS old, they will NOT replace the unit with a new unit and will ONLY offer me a refurbished unit.
Imagine this… You go to your local department store and purchase a new Television, with that department stores warranty, and when it dies 5 months later, they tell you ‘Here’s your refurbished monitor’. NOT FAIR!.
Additionally, I have been promised on 3 separate occasions that a Manager would contact me within 24 to 48 hours. On all 3 occasions, I have waited a full 7 days with no call from a manager. I’m still fighting with Dell for a new monitor.
The funny thing is that if you count the number of man hours Dell tech support has spent on this ticket, it would have been cheaper for them to just send me a new monitor.
