Trying to calibrate a U2410 wih EyeOne

I have just purchased a U2410 Montor running on a windows 7 64bit system. I am trying to calibrate the monitor using a hardware spyder, Eye-One Match 3, however, so far I am not impressed with the results.  The 22 inch monitors that I have from dell, allow me to adjust the RGB to create a custom RGB profile, however, when I try doing this with the U2410 I am unable to adjust it correctly. At present I have the following settings

White point native

Gamma 2.2

luminance 120

However when calibrating I can not get the luminance down to the required level even though I currently have the brightness currently set to zero!

In the end I have inserted the ICC profile in the drivers file and used this as the suggested icc profile, with the monitor preset Adobe 1998 mode and calibrated it. It still does not look correct.?

Could someone provide me with some pointers how I can get the monitor correctly calibrated. Many thanks in advance

Mark

I used Eye One Display 2 (Match 3) to calibrate my monitor. I used target white balance 6500K, switched to Custom Color mode of the monitor and changed RGB Gain values so that they produce a WB of 6500K. My final settings became 6500K white balance, 2.1 gamma and 121 luminance.  To achieve these, my monitor settings have become:

Brightness: 14

Contrast: 80

R=90, G=80, B=92

Put monitor in Custom mode and proceed.

For me 1 try was b:22 c:67 Gain R:76 G:73 B:76

one thing to add: now, calibrated and 119,6 cd the green/pink tint is unbearable.

Freddyfries,

To the best of my knowledge you cannot access the monitor's RGB settings as long as you're using the Adobe RGB preset.

On your monitor, try setting your preset to Custom and notice that when you press the green check mark button you'll be presented with a new menu that you didn't have with the Adobe RGB preset.  In this menu you'll see the Gain option which in turn (by again pressing the green check mark button) gives you access to the monitor RGB settings.  Remember this as you will need to return here later during calibration.

Then, in the calibration software, select "RGB Controls" (not rgb presets).  At this point the calibration software will ask you to adjust the monitor's RGB settings.  Just go back to the Custom preset on the monitor and press the green check mark button next to the Gain option to adjust the RGB settings as instructed in the calibration software.  I suspect this may even change your luminance to a more acceptable level.

Chris M,

I've had a U2410 for 3 months and calibrated it from the start.  I use the same Eye One Display 2 unit and Match 3 software and with much the same results as uzmanm.  Here's my settings for comparison.....

Brightness: 7
Contrast: 98
Luminance: 109.6 (as reported in the calibration software)
Target Gamma: Windows (2.2)

Here (in the profile filenames) is the target white point and the RGB gain settings needed to match it.

Chris, I've read another thread where people have been having issues with the ICM color profile supplied with the U2410.  One of the selling points used by monitor calibration vendors is that such profiles shouldn't be relied upon because monitors tend to go out of calibration as they age.  Although I've had my U2410 for only a few months, this seems to be the case when you look at the RGB values I needed to use over time to keep it in calibration.

Do you, or perhaps your engineers, know what an acceptable level of decline would be for the U2410?  For example, given my calibration history, what RGB values might I be using after 2 or 3 years of use?

Regards,
Frank

Update to my level of decline question after 9 months of use...

* At this time, we do not know.

* Go here to get the just released Beta U2410.ICM. Let me know how it test.

Excellent results can be reached like this:

B:10 C:100 and then use easy mode. Average de2000=0,38-0,42

I am using U2410 with Display Port and HD3650 (Thinkpad T500).

Cheers,

Marin
