U2412M, "hdmi to dvi" cable

Hi!

I want to buy a new monitor to my laptop. My laptop is this:  VPCF22M1E

http://www.sony.co.uk/product/vaio-f-series/vpcf22m1e

And a monitor that i want to buy is this:  Dell 24" UltraSharp U2412M

So is it possible to connect my laptop to this monitor with  "hdmi to dvi" cable? I want to be sure that  the connection works properly and get max. 1920x1200 resolution. (Not 1920x1080) I have read some difficulties to do this from internet so am i going to have any?

OR

Is it possible to connect my laptop to this monitor  with "hdmi to dvi" cable?: Dell 23'' UltraSharp U2312HM

Thank you!

Just to be sure. So U2412M will work with full resolution (1920x1200) if i buy "hdmi to dual link DVI-D" cable or adapter?

Thank you!

Hello Hartsa,

The Dell UltraSharp U2412M comes with the following connectors:

  • 1 Digital Visual Interface connectors (DVI-D) with HDCP
  • 1 DisplayPort(DP)
  • 1 Video Graphics Array (VGA)
  • 1 USB 2.0 upstream port
  • 4 USB 2.0 downstream ports

Hence in order to get the optimal resolution (1920x1200), we would need to use a dual link DVI-D cable. Same goes with the Dell UltraSharp U2312HM.

Hope this helps!

Hello Hartsa,

Since we did not actually test our monitor on the sony laptop, we cannot be 100% sure what it will or will not do. Our guess is that it should work as Sony documentation states.

Can I ask? Would the dual link cable (bottom photo), still fit into the DVI-D connector just the same as the single link cable?

This is incorrect.

The DELL U2312HM max resolution is 1920x1080 not 1920x1200 as with U2412HM.
