How do I connect the Inspiron 3688 to 2 x U2414H monitors? I spent an hour with technical support but I did not get much joy.
The Inspiron 3688 has the NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 730 with 2GB GDDR3 graphics memory card.
Thank you for your message.
The system model you have shared seems to be incorrect.
However, as per the video card, you can connect two external monitors.
You can connect a monitor through VGA & another through DVI. You will not have the same resolution due to the digital & analog connection.
The Inspiron is 3668, not 3688 but its an i5 processor with the graphics card as describe above.
Can you give me precise instructions because the information you have given conflicts with the advice I was given when spending an hour with technical support yesterday?
According to my receipt, the monitor has this:
2 HDMI(MHL) connectors
1 Mini DisplayPort
1 DisplayPort (version 1.2a)
1 DisplayPort out (MST)
1 Audio Line out (connect your speakers)
4 USB 3.0 ports - Downstream (4 at the back, 1 with battery charging)
1 USB 3.0 port - Upstrea
You mention VGA and DVI which means nothing to me.
I really need exact instructions.
1) Do I need to buy a HDMI cable? Not supplied by Dell
2) What are those DisplayPorts? I have a DisplayPort cable supplied.
The Help pdf isnt very clear.
The PDF shows us...
NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 video out ports = VGA, HDMI, DVI
The two U2414H must be connected to the added video card GeForce GT 730 video out ports. You cannot use the upper 3668 onboard HDMI out port or the onboard VGA out port. You will need to buy the cables locally or online.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 HDMI out port --> HDMI to HDMI cable ---> First U2414H HDMI in port
NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 DVI out port --> DVI to HDMI cable --> Second U2414H HDMI in port
