U2711, Locked on a different input
I recently got a U2711 from my aunt along with a DVI cable. I turned on the monitor only to find the mode is locked onto DisplayPort option. I have tried pressing the menu button but even when held for 60 seconds the no cable popup keeps interrupting the reset. I have tried the hard reset numerous times along with looking at support for an hour or so to no avail. It is hooked up to a new computer that has no operating system, but does not work on my laptop with an HDMI cord.
Any suggestions are much appreciated!

This is not of any help to me. I have tried numerous different solutions from other forums, and the manual does not have anything about locking/unlocking.

Blakebelt72,
Possible ways to unlock
* Enter the monitor OSD (On Screen Display) -Others, look for Menu Lock, choose Unlock
* Press the Menu button for 15 seconds
* Press the Exit button for 15 seconds
* Press both the Menu and Exit buttons for 15 seconds
* Disconnect the monitor power cord from the rear of the monitor. Press and hold in the monitor power button for 15 seconds. Reconnect the monitor power cord

I've tried all of the above suggestions and none work...
Is there a way to completely reset the monitor?
Note to self: never plug in HDMI again... :-(

Its not clear if (a) the OSD is locked (you see a lock icon when you press any button), or (b) the OSD is unlocked and you can access the input menu but it always reverts to DP regardless of what input you select.
If the answer is (b) I have no clue, but if the answer is (a), then I'm afraid you are going to have to find and connect to a DP source to unlock the OSD (using the hold-down-the-menu-button-for-15-seconds method). You can't even get into the service menu unless there is an active signal on the U2711.

Let me understand you correctly. I have the opposite issue. I have plugged in a new machine using he DP connection (previously the monitor was using DVI).
Now I have a NO DVI-D1 Cable displayed that moves around the screen like a Windows 95 screensaver.
When I press the first button about power, 5 (exit according to instruction manual) a lock appears in the middle of the screen.
I have tried all the rest methods mentioned and the monitor even returned to booting up with the dell logo which I have not seen for a while.
To unlock the screen, I need to provide a DVI source? Does it have to be a live source or can I just plug a stupid cable in.
The issue is I do not have a DVI source.
Please advise.
As an IT professional, I completely understand the need for security and ability to make screens very tamper proof. However, at this level; this is ridiculous. Perhaps this should be an option for people to be able to turn on and off as they please. As not all users of these types of monitors are federal or such offices that have to make sure no one uses their display to show unauthorized stuff.
Please advise.
Thanks,
Tamer

MY DELL U2711 menu was locked on HDMI input.
I unlocked locked monitor menu starting in monitor turned off mode. I put my fingers over power button and exit button (button immediately above power button) simultaneously pressed both and hence turning on power to monitor that displayed locked icon , held both for just over 15 seconds until unlocked icon showed up on the screen and high pitch sound sounded, I stopped pressing after additional te seconds all, the buttons lighted up for a while sound continued.
Then I to pressed exit button to try to access menu but it did not work so I pressed power button and turned monitor off. After 30 seconds I turned it back on and waited while different buttons lighten up and then went black. After a while, few seconds I pressed power button again to turn it off. And then I turned it on again and sound stopped, menu was unlocked by pressing exit button as usual I selected input and than selected DVI input I wanted.
I am not saying that all what I did was necessary as I did it by trial and error but it worked in the sequence I described so if you try you are likely to succeed.
