U3415W, goes black temporarily video enabled websites
Summary: The 3 year warranty expired on April 23, 2020. With laptop connected to monitor via HDMI and configured as the only display, everything works perfectly and looks crisp and beautiful all the time, with one odd exception: some (but not all) websites that play video (or other multimedia?) cause the entire monitor to go black and lose its connection with the laptop, and the laptop's screen takes over. Usually (but not always), this is only lasts about a second or 2, then the laptop screen goes back to black and display returns to monitor. Then it's back to normal, except that my windows are rearranged a bit due to the different resolution/aspect ratio of the laptop, which is a bit annoying.
Where observed consistently:
- Netflix (web player)
- Prime Video (web player)
- https://www.totalwine.com (oddly enough. every page view)
Where NOT observed:
- YouTube
PC: Dell Precision 5540, Windows 10, Chrome browser, all software/drivers completely up to date.
Video cards (I'm honestly not sure which one feeds the HDMI port)
- NVIDIA Quadro T2000
- Intel UHG Graphics 630
What I've tried (none work):
- Factory reset of monitor
- Ensuring all drivers are up to date
- Self-test and built-in diagnostics (all good)
- Lowering display resolution
- Configuring laptop as extended display rather than keeping its display off
What I've NOT tried:
- Connecting via DisplayPort (Laptop doesn't support directly, suspect I'd need a USB adapter?)
Other info:
- Exact same symptoms exhibited with older laptop.
- Have a coworker with exact same monitor but different laptop and HDMI cable.
- Both would seem to suggest it's something with the monitor.
Thanks in advance for any solutions to this problem!
