RE: UP2414Q won't reliably resume from sleep or reboot using mDP to DP cable

Argh, I have had my share of bad designs. With the bugs I'm not sure it's worth it quite yet. If the firmware was user flashable that would lend a little more confidence, but getting refurbished products bring their own nightmare's. It is a bummer because over on the Red Cinema forums it was looking like this was one of the good ones. Everyone is still using 4k TVs which have their own set of problems heh heh.

RE: UP2414Q won't reliably resume from sleep or reboot using mDP to DP cable

Is this issue showing up with all video cards, or is it just a few? I have a quadro k4000.

RE: UP2414Q won't reliably resume from sleep or reboot using mDP to DP cable

Hi

Does anyone know what the current status of this? Ive been holding out for a definitive answer on whether it is fully resolved. I am fed up of doing an off-and-on dance multiple times a day trying to get both monitors to come on at the same time.

Thanks

Ben

RE: UP2414Q won't reliably resume from sleep or reboot using mDP to DP cable

Are there any updates on this?

I am using UP2414 with S/N:CN-0WWRHC-74445-3C3-112L Rev. A00

I read that even the new FW revision A01 doesn't resolve the problem, or does it?

I use MacPro with the monitor for almost half a year (bought it new) with Dual AMD FirePro D700 (or for windows users dual AMD Radeon HD7900). And I got really fed up with hard reseting the MacPro because of these monitor wake-up issues.

I use only this monitor connected with the supplied cable to the miniDP port of the MacPro.

When I start the mac normally it usually works (although not always) but then hoding the alt key for the bootcamp it almost always gets stuck in sleep mode and the only way out is to hard reset the MacPro.

On the other hand if i do a restart of the computer and hold the alt button already while the os shuts down then on the restart the bootcamp menu shows up i.e. monitor usually wakes up correctly,, but this is also incosistent.

Bottom line - DELL please, there is an issue on yourside! No excuses - I have all the updates of OSs (OS X and Win 8.1) and drivers. It is a gorgeus monitor and for something costing over 1000bucks I expect that it should wake up reliabliy just as the cheap old monitors.

RE: UP2414Q won't reliably resume from sleep or reboot using mDP to DP cable

Even though you are running in boot camp, you are still using the apple proprietary hardware. We do not test/validate on apple hardware. The mbp does not have the standardized mDP (Mini DisplayPort). It uses the apple proprietary thunderbolt port. You should not be using a straight cable from the apple thunderbolt port. You need to purchase and test the thunderbolt to DP adapter. No, I have no idea where to get one.

apple thunderbolt port --> thunderbolt to DP adapter --> Dell DP to mDP cable --> UP2414Q mDP in port

RE: UP2414Q won't reliably resume from sleep or reboot using mDP to DP cable

Thank you for the quick answer Chris but I am afraid you are not quite correct. It is correct that the problem arises before loading drivers - but that is also a problem that other users have stated so far.

More importantly, as I said in my previous message I use MacPro not mbp (MacBookPro) as you say. It has Thunderbolt 2 port which is also a Mini DisplayPort 1.2 (the vice versa is not true though) and the Dell monitor is set to dp1.2.

So the problem is there. If I use an adapter - a Mini DisplayPort to vga or dvi and attach an older monitor (also dell) it works like a charm, always.

Shall I go on and test again with my HP Elitebook workstation? I used the monitor also with that laptop (also supports dp1.2) and I also had similar problems (although much easier to resolve since the laptop has its own display to default to).

I mean the wake-up problem with this monitor is real. Now that I had enough of it (hardresetting the MacPro or having a spare old monitor at the side with mini dp to vga adapter so that I can shut down properly) I am willing to go all the way to test and report in a way that you could reproduce the problem.

Kind regards,

Mitko

"It has Thunderbolt 2 port which is also a Mini DisplayPort 1.2"

Based on the results I have seen on the apple forum, that is a questionable statement from a technical specification point of view. I agree that their "marketing" says it is the same. We believe apple has done something proprietary to that port. I can say that apple users have had more success using the thunderbolt to DP adapter.

Go ahead and test on the HP. If you still have issues, get a monitor exchange.

Wow, this may be my last dell monitor.  Seriously, you don't even care if it works with apple?  This is a huge problem and a black eye for dell, not apple. Get it fixed.

RE: UP2414Q won't reliably resume from sleep or reboot using mDP to DP cable

Unfortunately, Dell does not test/validate this monitor model on Apple hardware, ports, and software. Because of this, Dell does not have many troubleshooting steps to offer.
