What sound bar is good for the U2412M?

What are my sound bars choices for the Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24.0 inch monitor?

What would you recommend?

Chris, can you please give us other soundbar models that are compatible with U2412M?

AX510 or 511, for example?

Thank you!

SpeedStep, have you edited your post? In my e-mail I got that you are using an AX510 with your &2412M, but in the forum there's this table which misses 2412M.

Is it not on the list because U2412M didn't existed when AX510 was launched -- that's what I think.

Here's proof that AX510 fits U2412M:

1. A Dell tech assures us that AY511 (EXPENSIVE) fits U2412M.

2. Specs show that AY511 fits U2410.

3. Specs show that AX510 fits U2410 too.

4. Therefore, AX510 and AY511 are INTERCHANGEABLE on both monitors, so AX510 definitely fits U2412M.

It's just that AX510 documentation is not updated to include newer monitors (U2412M), and... one can always recommend something that costs more, right?

"Do you want fries with that?"

I have bought an AX510PA, and it fits U2412 perfectly. The sound is very good, I'm very happy with it. Now my monitor is complete!

Although the U2412 has a DC output for powering the soundbar, I have acquired the AX510PA (the soundbar with Power Adapter), because it cost the same as the version without power adapter. Now I have a spare 12V/1A switch mode power adapter (attention, it has a female DC lead).

The Dell AY511 SoundBar with Virtual Surround is what we offer on the sales site when purchasing the U2412M.

The as501 etc should fit also. Strange haw the u2412m has the port but there is no cable for it.

This website states that the only difference between AX510 and AS501 is the color of the grill.

PS: still amazed by the sound and overall quality of AX510!

The as and ax line of soundbars should work on the new u2412m monitor but the one they recommend (ay511) is to be used with an external power supply and doesn't even connect to the monitor. I am hoping my as501 will work when my monitor arrives. I know it will attach but the connections are a gray area. I had 4 chat sessions with different chatters and none had any answers so I called support but they require a tag# which the monitor doesn't have.

Thanks, I still don't know whey the new 24" monitor has a speaker port but the new AY511 doesn't use it and uses a power supply instead. Maybe it is because it needs the extra power of the power supply.

Indeed, AY511 is rated at 20 W / 12 V, so it needs about twice the juice of AX510. I have seen a soundbar rated at 14 W feed directly on the monitor, but not 20 W.

AY511 is also wider than AX510, 17.7 inches compared to 13.4 inches. So, extra size, power and functions are the reason for a bigger price.

Any of the older ones in the as and ax line will work without the ext power. The new dell one gets power from a power supply and and they make you pay extra for that. i am keeping my old as501 (silver) and using it one the new monitor coming. The ax line is black.

Mine is black, so using a silver one is out of the question. Also, AY511 is not that expensive only because of its mandatory external power supply, which is 12 V at 2 A, compared to 1 A for the AX510PA, but it also has twice the power of the AX510 or AS501, VirtualSurround, TruBass and an extra RCA connector for an additional subwoofer. Front panel with touch-sensitive keys also adds to the price.

I purchased a  Dell AY511 Soundbar for my Dell U3011 Monitor.  The Soundbar fits the monitor perfectly; however, the power adapter that was sent is an AC power adapter and the male end will not fit the female monitor receptacle.  The Dell AY511 Soundbar User's Guide states the following:   WARNING: To power the soundbar, use only the DC 12 V power adapter that was shipped with your soundbar.    No DC 12 V power adapter was shipped with this Soundbar.

Dell sent out a replacement Dell AY511 Soundbar; but again,  I received the same kind of AC power adapter.  I am assuming that this is some kind of error at the point of manufacturing and shipping.   Not one person at Dell support or Customer Care understands what I am talking about.  It's been such a hastle just trying to communicate with Dell Support.

How can I resolve this problem? Should I just give up and return both Dell AY511 Soundbar and purchase the Dell  AX510 UltraSharp and Professional Series Flat Panel Stereo Soundbar?  This Soundbar does not require a power adapter ... is this correct?   It certainly would be cheaper.

Thanks for your help.

AX510 does not require a separate power adapter if your monitor has a 12V power receptacle. The monitor cannot supply the current required by the more advanced AY511 (2 Amperes), compared with 1 Ampere for the AX510.

Personally, I would keep the AY511 for its extra power and audio functions (see my previous post) and get an inexpensive 12 Vdc / 2 A from ebay or walmart or a similar store. You only need a matching female plug - beware the polarity when soldering it! If it's not your field, you can ask a more technically-inclined friend for this, it's no big deal.

Dell misplaced the power supply when packing your speakers... they probably do not have it for sale separately.
