XPS 8700 and U2515H max resolution

Hi, I've just received a new Dell XPS 8700 computer with an AMD Radeon R9 270 graphics card.

I'm trying to connect it to my existing U2515H monitors (I've got 2, but currently just trying 1 to get started).

The monitors have the following ports:

  • 2 x HDMI
  • 1 x Display Port (in)
  • 1 x Mini Display Port (in)
  • 1 x Display Port (out)

The graphics card has:

  • 1 x HDMI
  • 1 x Display Port
  • 1 x DVI-I
  • 1 x DVI-D

I'm currently using a DVI to HDMI cable to connect the PC to monitor, but for some reason it won't let me go over 2048 x 1152.

Using the same cables, I'm connecting my other U2515H monitor to my old Dell XPS 8100 (GTX 260), and that lets me go to the full 2560 x 1440.

If I connect my new XPS 8700 to my old U2711 monitor via a straight DVI cable, I can achieve the 2560 x 1440 resolution.

I'm going to try a straight HDMI or Display Port cable next, but I'm wondering at this point why the HDMI to DVI cable doesn't work considering it works on my old XPS 8100.

Any ideas?

RE: XPS 8700 and U2515H max resolution

The video card has both DVI-I and DVI-D out ports. Are you testing both of those?
video card DVI-I out --> DVI to HDMI cable --> U2515H HDMI #1 in
video card DVI-I out --> DVI to HDMI cable --> U2515H HDMI #2 in

video card DVI-D out --> DVI to HDMI cable --> U2515H HDMI #1 in
video card DVI-D out --> DVI to HDMI cable --> U2515H HDMI #2 in
