Access is denied. (Win32 error 0x5) in Networker 8.2

Hi Friends,

We are getting backup failures with error Access is denied. (Win32 error 0x5).

Below are our setup details,

Networker server 8.2.3.8 running on Windows server 2012 R2

Client servers are on windows server OS.

The backups of some client servers failing with the below error's,

5191:save: File E:\AdminOnly\Windows 10 ADMX\Windows10-ADMX.msi could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied. (Win32 error 0x5))


5191:save: File E:\AdminOnly\Windows8.1-KB2966828-x64.msu could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied. (Win32 error 0x5))


File C:\Windows\ccmcache\8a\windows8.1-kb3148198-x64.cab could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied. (Win32 error 0x5))


File C:\Oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1\jre\1.5.0\lib\rt.jar could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied. (Win32 error 0x5))


File E:\DPW\Interchange_dpw_2.4.2.zip could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied. (Win32 error 0x5))


File C:\Windows\Installer\104d9cff.msp could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied. (Win32 error 0x5))

If the affected clients have Anti Virus software installed, then ensure the Anti Virus the correct rules and exceptions in place to allow the NetWorker software to do it's work. 

If the affected hosts do have Anti Virus software as suspected. Then, as a test, try temporarily disabling the Anti Virus, reboot the machine, & try again a Full backup. If it succeeds then you will know the correct rules need to be put in place.

The "Access is denied" suggests to me some other application has a lock on the files (Usually Anti Virus software)...
