We do have a very low drives in some of our servers we are trying to install NW client and NMM(SQL) on those servers for backups on NW client side does the logs get cleared out after certain days or after some GB under NSR or how it will be account that just worried about the drive space on NW clients. and is there any way we can control not growing than this much space or days etc.....

NW server-8.1 and NW 8.0.1

NMM 2.4 and NMM 3.0

You can control the size and numbers of daemon.raw and rap.log by adjusting NSR_MAXLOGSIZE and NSR_MAXLOGVERS.

You can also control the size and numbers of gstd.raw by adjusting GST_MAXLOGSIZE and GST_MAXLOGVERS. gstd.rawcontains messages from the NMC console server. If you want to control disk space usage on the NMC console server, you can consider adjusting GST_MAXLOGSIZE and GST_MAXLOGVERS.

The above values can be set under "Systemvariables":

Windows > My Computer > Properties > Advanced    > Environmental Variables > System variables >    New

Notes:

The value set for NSR_MAXLOGSIZE will only takeeffect after restarting NetWorker server. The daemon.log file sizeis only checked when NetWorker is started.

Therefore the maximum log file size should only beconsidered as a guideline and not as a hard rule. The daemon.logwill exceed this limit if NetWorker is not restarted for anextended period of time.

The rap.log file is checked at various intervalbut with no set schedule. It too can exceed the maximum log filesize but in general not by more than a few Kbytes.

If NSR_MAXLOGVERS is set higher than 999, then nolog rotation will take place, even if the actual number of logfiles is less than 999. Some log files, notably the messages file, are not automatically rotated.

Thanks a lot Tim.

Is there any hard rule in NW that it will keep the logs on client side  (NW client the server we backup using NW)
Like 15 days 30 days or 10MB or 1GB like that does they clear out by according to retention of data we keep for the server?

Thank you.

no such hard rule.

retention policy only applies to the backup data. It does not affect the files (logs) on the client if the files are not backed up.

Hi,

There are instructions in the NetWorker Administration Guide page 564 - 'Log file Size Management'.  This tells you how to set the 'runtime rollover' values by size or time as well as maximum amount of logs and size of each log.  You can do this on the NetWorker client that concerns you and define yourself the max size for the log.
