EMC Networker Port Requirement

Hello Experts,

We are using EMC networker 8.2. Please let us know the bi-directional port that needs to opened from client to server and vice versa.

We have one client its 7237 port we are able to telnet from client to server but 7238 its not happening.

Thanks & Regards,

The communications between both computers runs on ports 7937 & 7938.

To check it run the standard communication test as follows:

  - from ther server:      nsradmin -p nsrexec -s

  - from ther client:       nsradmin -p nsrexec -s

The NetWorker client requires a minimum of 4 TCP service ports.

The NetWorker server requires a minimum of 15 TCP service ports.

Please refer to the following documentation for detailed explanation.

NetWorker 8.2 Security Configuration Guide, Chapter 4, Communication Security Settings, page 93-114

     https://support.emc.com/docu53913_NetWorker_8.2_Security_Configuration_Guide.pdf?language=en_US

Configuring TCP Networks and Network Firewalls for EMC NetWorker

     https://support.emc.com/docu6930_Configuring_TCP_Networks_and_Network_Firewalls_for_EMC_NetWorker.pdf?language=en_US

Note: nsrexecd on every type of NetWorker host will always try to listen on ports 7937 and 7938. The ports will be used no matter what the value of the range in the NetWorker software, unless another process is already listening on those ports when NetWorker is started. NetWorker requires the port 7938 for rpcbind (portmapper) to be running and available through the firewall, or NetWorker will cease to function correctly.

by default NetWorker works on ports 7937 to 9936. The nsrexecd always listens on port 7937 but the other daemons might be any of the other ports assigned. If you do want to restrict the number of ports Wallace has already provided you with the required documents you can follow them.

Hi Bingo,

If we do the below test. Does it confirm all the required ports are opened?

  - from ther server:      nsradmin -p nsrexec -s

  - from ther client:      nsradmin -p nsrexec -s

NetWorker administration program.

Use the "help" command for help, "visual" for full-screen mode.

If the destination machine answered, it means that the communivation to the service ports is fine.

This is mandatory doe a general NW communication.
